The Indian Premier League (IPL) introduced the Impact Player rule in 2023, allowing teams to make one tactical substitution per match. This paper evaluates this rule change and its association with player auction prices. Using an interrupted time series (ITS) design on 1,344 player-auction observations across 13 IPL seasons (2014-2026), I find that the rule is associated with a 44-51% decline in auction prices for all-rounders, with the influence concentrated among Indian allrounders (53-63%).
